My website is page 1 on google and yahoo for my chosen keywords, yet I am not getting much traffic, why?

I researched the keywords on the google ads keyword tool and they appeared to have high search volumes, yet I am not getting if a thousanth of these searches predicted.

Hi Lala,

I would recommend the following

1. Use Google Webmaster tools to determine how many people have seen your website as a result of a search for your keyword – it will also tell you approximately what percentage of those people went to your website.

2. If there are in fact a lot of people searching for that phrase but not clicking on your website then you might want to modify the Title and Meta Description of the page to create a more compelling listing in the SERPs. (You might consider using Adwords as a fast way to test multiple types of ad copy – you can find out in just a couple days what messaging works best and incorporate that into your Title / Meta Description)

3. Also, bear in mind that by default the Adwords Keyword Tool will tell you the Broad Match Search Volume which will always be considerably higher than the Exact Match Search Volume because it will include synonyms and related phrases – there is a drop down menu on the right that lets you select Exact Match to find out how many people searched for that exact phrase.

4. Another thing to consider is the fact that for many phrases the difference between being on page one and being in the top 3-5 listings can be dramatic.

I hope that this clears up your problem and puts you on the path to developing great traffic!
